Saint-André fort consists of a fortified outer wall flanked by watch towers and a monumental gateway framed by twin towers.
Commissionned in 1292 by Philippe le Bel, king of France, to affirm royal power in the lands of the Empire and the Avignon popes, Saint-André fort also provided protection for the Benedictine abbey and the small borough of Saint-André on mount Andaon which documents show has existed since the 10th century.
